IDENTITY

This past Sunday was Father's Day.

 A Day to REMEMBER.

A day of sonship.

of IDENTITY.

3-16-13

10:15 AM

FIRESTARTERS REVIVAL CLASS BEGINS

I'm taking you with me as I learn,.

This is from our class.

All of it. With things that I gleened from what I studied added along the way.

1. Jesus knew His identity.

Matthew 17:5

English Standard Version (ESV)

He was still speaking when, behold, (A)a bright cloud overshadowed them, and (B)a voice from the cloud said, (C)“This is my beloved Son,[a] with whom I am well pleased; (D)listen to him.”

Jesus operated as a son in a relationship with His Father.

'SONS AND DAUGHTERS HAVE ACCESS,INTIMACY,INFLUENCE AND AUTHORITY in the Kingdom.

When you know who you are, you know what you can do.

sidenote:

 * It is why we must use it wisely.

2. We have a New Identity through Jesus.

2 Corinthians 5:17

1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

17 [a]Therefore if any man be in Christ, let him be a [b]new creature. (A)Old things are passed away: behold, all things are become new.

Footnotes:

  1. 2 Corinthians 5:17 An exhortation for every man which is renewed with the spirit of Christ, to meditate heavenly things, and not earthly.
  2. 2 Corinthians 5:17 As a thing made anew of God, for though a man be not newly created when God giveth him the spirit of regeneration, but only his qualities are changed, yet notwithstanding it pleased the holy Ghost to speak so, to teach us, that we must attribute all things to the glory of God: not that we are as stocks or blocks: but because God creates in us, both the will to will well, and the power to do well.

(Cross references:2 Corinthians 5:17 : Isa. 43:19; Rev. 21:5 extra if you are hungry)

Note: As a revivalist, we need to change the way we think of ourselves, which will affect the way we 'operate in life and in ministry.'

For EXAMPLE - The way we think of God ( the way we view, picture or see Him as influencing our lives) determines the way we represent Him ( the way we re-present Him to others)

If we believe God is good, that He heals and is 'for us', etc. then we will represent Him that way to others. ( we will show them what it looks like by our walk and our actions to others)

Hebrews 11:6

Expanded Bible (EXB)

[L And] Without faith no one can please God. [L For; Because] Anyone who comes to God must believe that he ·is real [exists] and that he rewards those who ·truly want to find[earnestly/sincerely seek] him.

Many people have the misconceptions of how God exists...that He is angry at them, that He causes sickness,(for example) ...Therefore they represent God that way. ( thats what they write about, sing about, share and repeat in their everyday lives)

In the same way, we must SEE OURSELVES in the truth of how God has made us in order to be the Firestarters (revivalists sharing His love with the rest of the world and causing them to burn with passion for Him and others too)that He has called to be. We are called to :CHANGE THE WORLD. ( what does that look like to you?)

In other words, if we see ourselves as sinners, as incompetent, as inadequate, etc., then we will represent ourselves that way to the world.( our lives reflect the world we are most aware of)

In other words, (examples): if we see ourselves as sinners, incompetent, inadequate... then we will represent ourselves that way to the world.

KNOWING OUR IDENTITY IS KEY TO LIVING IN OUR DESTINY.

( you could even say: its the FIRST STEPS)

Sunday was PIVOTAL for me as a DAUGHTER.

 It's official.

As sons and daughters we do this together.

As we do, heaven responds.

From the moment Jesus was publically declared a SON, there were chances for Him to 'not believe' that He indeed was.

40 days was the time He spent having opportunity and tests, led 'by the Spirit of God' into the wilderness ( which in this case means to call aside to speak)

Tempted and tried, once it ended, angels came and ministered to Him.

Heaven proved at the end of this series of tests that He had indeed heard right in the TIMING ( or should I say, His mother heard right and initiated it) and that God was indeed with Him.

KNOW the season you are in.

REMEMBER (which is a covenant word) the WORDS HE HAS SPOKEN over you.

Hold on to them and let them be your meat. Your drink.

Here is a stark contrast of sonship and a servant in action:

John 4:34

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

34 Jesus said, “My food is to do what the one who sent me wants me to do. My food is to finish the work that he gave me to do.

( but dont eat your seed) SMILES!

Back to the lesson.

3. We are FRIENDS  not servants. ( yes we serve, but from the position of a son.  We will discuss more on that later. right now we are talking about 'IDENTITY'. Who we are. That is the point we are making today.

or you could say, our point today is: your I.D.

( You cannot get a passport, a social security card or much of anything nowadays withour your I.D. Your I.D. is PROOF  of who you are.

John 15:15

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

15 I no longer call you servants, because servants don’t know what their master is doing. But now I call you friends, because I have told you everything that my Father told me.

(That's what friends do. They tell eachother things. God considers us His friend and so He shares what He is doing in earth and we get to be a part of it.)

*Teachers note: Obviously we will always serve God and others, but we interact with God as friends, not servants.

A servant only does what he is commanded to do. Friends PARTNER TOGETHER to accomplish a COMMON VISION. As friends of God, we partner with God to release the kingdom.

(Releasing the kingdom: what does that look like?

His way of doing and being here in earth.

We focus on what we see Him doing in heaven and then bring it to earth.

4. We are SONS and DAUGHTERS.

I want you to practice right now. Say: I am a daughter of God.  ( or I am a son of God)

He loves me.

 I am accepted,.

 I can do great things.

He established me.

He spoke over me.

 I am His chosen one.

I have access to everything as a child of the king.

John 1:13

Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

13 not because of bloodline, physical impulse or human intention, but because of God.- This is our NEW, ULTIMATE IDENTITY.

1 John 3:1

Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

See what love the Father has lavished on us in letting us be called God’s children! For that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it has not known him.

Romans 8:16

Complete Jewish Bible (CJB)

16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our own spirits that we are children of God;17 and if we are children, then we are also heirs, heirs of God and joint-heirs with the Messiah — provided we are suffering with him in order also to be glorified with him.

Here is an easy to read version translation of the same scriptures in case you need it to be more of a picture:::

Romans 8:16-17

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

16 And the Spirit himself speaks to our spirits and makes us sure that we are God’s children. 17 If we are God’s children, we will get the blessings God has for his people. He will give us all that he has given Christ. But we must suffer like Christ suffered. Then we will be able to share his glory.

and here's one more in case you didnt understand the full message

Romans 8:16-17

The Message (MSG)

15-17 This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!

 I like that translation BEST!

What's next papa?

ADVENTUROUS AND FUN GOD!

Galatians 4:7

The Message (MSG)

4-7 But when the time arrived that was set by God the Father, God sent his Son, born among us of a woman, born under the conditions of the law so that he might redeem those of us who have been kidnapped by the law. Thus we have been set free to experience our rightful heritage. You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Doesn’t that privilege of intimate conversation with God make it plain that you are not a slave, but a child? And if you are a child, you’re also an heir, with complete access to the inheritance.

I want you to say this:

Say: the time as arrived

I am adopted

I am God's child.

I get all the blessings of God.

I can hear God

I know what God is doing because I am His child and He tells me.

God is in love with me.

God is excited about me.

I have complete ACCESS to the inheritance.

Teacher's Note:

As sons and daughters, we have access to the resources of the Kingdom.

We get our inheritance now.

one more is worth the search and that is to look up the word from a Jewish perspective. since Jesus was Jewish.

Influence:

Matthew 7:7-8

Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Ask God for What You Need(A)

“Continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, whoever continues to ask will receive. Whoever continues to look will find. And whoever continues to knock will have the door opened for them.

I thought this was the most powerful insight into what Influence LOOKS LIKE:

USING the Acts Church as a rolemodel for what we are building as revivalists

http://www.studylight.org/dic/hbd/view.cgi?n=96&search=influence#influence  (scroll down to the OUTLINE.  its much of a word picture to see what God giving a son and daughter influence looks like in action)

Authority

biblical usage, describes the absolute power and freedom of God, and claims that He is the source of all other authorization or power.

The word “authority” is used rarely in the Old Testament.

In the English New Testament it translates the Greek exousia , a word for which there is no exact correspondence in Hebrew or Aramaic. The Greek “exousia” expresses both freedom and legal rights, and is used in the Bible in numerous ways.

( examples here:  http://lifehealingministries.u...rs/wheres-the-power/

Old Testament Two Hebrew words are translated “authority,” but occurrences are not common. Examples include Proverbs 29:2 , describing the rejoicing of the people when the righteous are “in authority;” Esther 9:29 , speaking of “full written authority” (RSV) Esther and Mordecai exercised;

Strongs Concordance

 Number 7990

 having mastery, having authority, ruling
1a) having or exercising mastery, ruling
    1b) ruler (subst)
    1c) having authority
        1c1) it is authorised
Matthew 9:8 - NAS – But when the crowds saw this, they were awestruck, and glorified God, who had given such authority to men.

Matthew 10:1 - NAS – Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

Teacher's Notes:
  • Sons have ACCESS to their father's resources. For example, let's say you have an adult son who no longer lives in your home. Does he have to make a ''reservation'' to come to your house? Hopefully not! Does he need ''permission'' to take something out of the refrigerator or turn on the television?  No! He has free access to your house and your resources.
  • Now, the carpet cleaners came to your house unannounced at 7 o'clock in the morning and a few of the employees were scouring through your refrigerator and cupboards looking for food, you most likely wouldn't be as inviting. In fact, you'de probably kick them out of your house and tell them to 'make an appointment' because they are not 'sons', they are 'servants.'
They can only come when it's convenient for you, i.e. only on Sunday's and Wednesday nights.

  • Furthermore, sons of ANY AGE get to snuggle with their dads. Your son might do this while watching a football game or a movie. It's not inappropriate for your adult son to come and lie acrossed the couch and stick his smelly feet in your lap.
  • On the other hand, if the carpet cleaner came over to the couch while you were watching television and began to snuggle with you, it would be very inappropriate because he is a servant. ONLY SONS AND DAUGHTERS GET TO SNUGGLE WITH THEIR FATHER.
  • The same goes for influence. Slaves are influenced by their masters. Sons and daughters influence their Father to give them things. When your kids come to you with a need, you want to bless them because they are your children. But a servant only gets what they have worked for.
  • KEY: when we KNOW  our IDENTITY, we can walk in our authority. Jesus' baptism IDENTIFIED HIM as a SON.( Identity)

  • In Jewish culture when a son came of age to run the family business, he would be taken to the 'city gates' where the father would point out his son to everyone.
  • He was then able to transact business ( Kingdom) on his father's behalf through the authority that had been given to him.
  • Jesus GAVE His disciples 'authority'. Why? Because He saw them as sons/daughters. In the same way, we can transact Kingdom business for our Heavenly Father.
